ABOUT US

In the heart of the Pilbara, a new Indigenous joint venture is providing the region with a reliable and experienced local partner in engineering services.

Karratha-based Birndirri was formed out of a partnership between Koorbee Group and CPC Engineering, a Perth-based multi-disciplinary engineering firm with an international presence and a long history spanning over 50 years.

Birndirri leverages off Koorbee Group’s local cultural capabilities and is backed by CPC Engineering’s strong track record in engineering design, construction, and maintenance, with operations based in Karratha reaching key mining areas in Western Australia.

Koorbee Group’s owners, Josie and Jordon Alec, whose bloodlines cross three local owner groups in the Pilbara, the Kuruma Marduthunera, Ngarluma, and Yinjibarndi, have a 51 per cent stake in the joint venture.

The majority Indigenous-owned joint venture will help build capabilities in the coastal regions of the Pilbara, from Whim Creek to Robe River and the inland areas of Millstream Chichester National Park and the Hamersley Ranges and beyond.

CPC Engineering has a strong backbone of expertise, practical knowledge, and established processes and systems translating into successful operations across mining, commercial, industrial and domestic settings.

Koorbee’s joint venture with CPC Engineering employs more than 30 local people in Karratha and the surrounding areas, delivering a comprehensive range of trade services, project management, sustaining capital works, and maintenance services to major and mid-tier companies across multiple sectors within the region.

In partnership with Koorbee, Birndirri provides cultural competency training to employees on site, minimising downtime and travel costs while enabling employees to experience and understand ‘on country’ heritage.
